Things To Do When You Are Feeling Low | The Shilpa Doley Blog

I am sure many of us feel low on some days. It happens to me quite often thus, I have found some ways to divert my mind, for lingering on depressing thoughts can affect us, both physically and mentally.I believe the only way out is to let your emotions flow. What I mean to say is that if you want to cry, just cry. Not because something is wrong with you but to relive yourself from the heaviness of those feelings. Often, knowing the reason is not easy but it’s okay. Just accept the fact that you are feeling low and know that you will overcome it.
In this post, I will share with you some of the things I personally do when I feel low :

WRITE DOWN THOUGHTS IN A JOURNAL

Writing down helps me to connect with myself on a deeper level. While treating myself with good food or warm tea, writing down my thoughts helps me in understanding those overwhelming emotions, and in a way, myself in a better way.
As mentioned already, oftentimes, the reasons for felling low aren’t clear and are blurred in our minds. But, writing down helps you untangle those unspeakable emotions and helps you connect with your raw self. After writing down how I am feeling, I always write a few positive affirmations. Those help to boost my confidence and provide me hope even in difficult situations.
So, next time when you are feeling low
  • Take a journal/piece of paper
  • Write down the emotions you are feeling at that moment (sad, angry, anxiety, fear, loss, jealousy, envy...and so on)
  • Things/ situations/ people that are bothering you.
  • Write down how to overcome these feelings (even if you can’t think of any, it’s all right. You’ll get better at it overtime.)
  • Write positive affirmations.

MAKE SOME TEA OR COFFEE
Whenever I feel low I make myself a good cup of masala chai/tea or coffee. Then I sit down alone for a while and by disconnecting myself from everything, I enjoy my cup of tea. It really refreshes my mind and energizes me.

LISTEN TO HIGH TEMPO SONGS

This is something which I tend to do and it instantly lifts up my mood. I don’t listen to sad songs or slow songs. I pick up songs which have high tempo because I am generally very fond of them. I bought a JBL headphone last year, and its sound quality gives me a real high. Take my suggestion: invest in a good headphone.

WATCH A MOVIE

Another way to lift up your mood is to watch movies. I am into adventure, sci-fi, superhero, fantasy, and dystopian movies. Watching such movies transports me into another world which helps me to overcome the gloominess. (Do you want know about some of my favourite movies?)

TALK TO FRIENDS/ GO OUT
I try to shift my mind into fun things so that I don’t overthink, for overthinking leads to negative energy.
Talking to your loved ones who will listen to you is a great healer. Talking it out will help you clear up your mind and lessen the burden your heart carries.
But, make sure the other person is sensitive towards you for if the other person negates your feelings and is not ready to lend some ears, I suppose it’s better not to talk because you do not want any negativity to be thrown to your face.
Therefore, share your emotions/feeling to people who will understand you and are willing to lend you some of their time.

These are some of the things I do when I am feeling low. They certainly work for me and you have to try and see what works for you. You might also have some other amazing ways to deal with bad days. Why don’t you share them with me?
