ALL ABOUT OIL CLEANSING METHOD
WHAT IS OIL CLEANSING METHOD? HOW DOES IT WORK?
This method
of cleansing the face is something close to my heart. Oil cleansing method
offers me the chance to take care of my skin which in turn makes me feel
better. I had come across this method a few months back. The oil cleansing
method is a way to cleanse your face using oils. Yes, you heard me right. We
can cleanse our face using oils. It might sound totally crazy to some of you but
it’s basic science. We have read about how like
dissolves like. In the same way oil dissolves oil. Let me explain...our
face secretes oil (sebum) through our sebaceous glands and when we massage oil
into our skin, it attaches the unwanted, imbalanced sebum and draws dirt and
impurities with it. Afterwards when we steam our face with a warm washcloth all
the oil comes off along with the embedded impurities and dirt. While most of us
dread with the name of ‘oil’ let me tell you oils aren’t our enemies but
friends when we understand their qualities and build a healthy relationship with them.
SOME
IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER ABOUT OCM
- Every skin is different so it will react differently; some might see breakouts or too much oil but it’s just the skin trying to adapt to a new routine. So, try not to use other facial cleansers in between because it might delay the adjustment period.
- When done consistently, the OCM will help skin get rid of excess dirt, oil, dead skin cells that are clogging your skin pores and causing acne and breakouts.
- OCM is suitable even for oily skinned people. This method does not dry out the skin’s naturally producing oil thus, balancing the oil production.
THE
RIGHT OIL FOR CLEANSING
- You can either buy oil cleansers (should have only high quality cold pressed oils as ingredients and fragrance free) or make them yourselves. DIY oil cleansers are cost effective, natural and fun to make. By making your own oil cleansers you know what oils you are using and can avoid oils which do not suit you thus avoiding irritation.
- It is safe until you use high quality organic
cold pressed oils. They are costlier than the regular oils but
it’s an investment for your skin and
you do not want to compromise on that. You need just a few drops so a little
will run a long way. High quality oils will nourish and replenish
your skin and leave it glowing and healthy.
OILS
SUITABLE FOR OCM:
Castor

Jojoba

Sweet almond

DIY
oil cleanser (a few combination ratios)
Castor oil dries the skin so, do not use it
alone. Higher ratio of castor oil is for oilier skin and vice versa. You can
also combine 2-3 different oils according to what suits your skin. First you
have to try to know what suits you best.
- 50% castor oil
50% 2nd
oil of choice
- 30 % castor oil
70% 2nd
oil of choice
- 30% castor oil
50% 2nd

20% 3rd

Oil Cleanser that I use:

I used an empty essential oil bottle to store my DIY oil cleanser.
HOW TO
DO THE OIL CLEANSING METHOD
- Take 1-2 pumps oil into your palms and massage it into the face.
- Give your skin a gentle facial massage as it helps to increase the blood flow and makes the skin smooth and hydrated when done regularly. Massage it in an upward motion taking some time. It relaxes the muscle, calms and de puffs the face.
- Let the oil sink in for around 1-2 minutes after the massage.
- Take a clean washcloth, immerse it in warm water and steam your face. Be careful and do f not use if the towel is too hot. The steam from the towel will pull out the oil along with the dirt embedded in the pores.
- You can also gently rub your face with the wash cloth to exfoliate. Avoid if you have active acne and only give a steam.
- Repeat it 2-3 times
- You do not have to use any face wash afterwards as the steam will soak away all the oil and your face will be clean.
